On the Road to Quartzsite!

Since the last posting, we had our Christmas celebrations, and we took all the boxes of stuff that we took out of the Airstream, and went through it to see what we wanted in the Bus. Unbelievably, most of it got put in!! The Bus is now well packed, and we have everything that we are used to having with uls.

We had made plans months ago to travel to Quartzsite, AZ with our friends, Mark and Sue Didelot of Lake Charles, LA, for the big RV Gathering that occurs each January. Mark also has a blog site……

Patsy and I first went to Quartzsite in ’99 while I was still working, and then we have been the last two years. It is fun. Like Mark said, “it is like a Woodstock for old people, but without the music!”.

Mark and Sue showed up in Victoria on Wednesday, and he helped me reinstall my Surgegard for protection of the Bus from Electrical surges. When my son, Rick, and I put it in the first time, it did not work and I had to send it back. The new one works well.

We weren’t going to leave until Saturday, but both of us had itchy feet, and wanted to go. Patsy and I finished up all of our errands, and we left on Friday morning. We drove to Fredericksburg to spend the first night, because we wanted to visit some old friends that we had met in Quartzsite last year, and even went to Mexico with. They are fulltimers, Bob and Linda Klyne. They are currently half way through a three-month volunteer assignment at the Admiral Nimitz museum in Fredericksburg, where they give tours three times a day. They have a travel web site…..

When we got to Fredricksburg, we checked into the campground, and then drove to the museum. We arrived about 4:15PM, and the last tour had already started. We called Linda on the cell phone, and since Bob was doing this tour, she came and got us, and put us in the tour.

We got a private showing of the PT boat display. Here are some photos:

After the tour, we visited awhile, and then decided to go to the Rathskeller Restaurant for dinner. That worked out well, because they put us in a private room, and we got to have a good visit. Mark and Sue, who are currently going full time got to meet and get to know them pretty well.

After dinner, they followed us over to the campground for a tour of our Bus and Mark and Sue’s Fifth Wheel.

We left the campground about 9:30AM this morning, after making a run to the local HEB to get some beef fajitas, and headed toward El Paso on I-10.

Here are some photos of Mark and Sue's camper on I-10 heading towards El Paso:
Patsy drove for about 250 miles to get used to the Bus. She will need to get an exempt commercial drivers license from Texas soon to be legal to drive. She is scheduled for a driving school in Casa Grande during the middle of February.

We drove until about 7:00pm and spent the night at the Texas Welcome station rest area just north of El Paso. We had planned on WIFI at the rest area, but it was not working.
