A Quick Little Rock Visit with Rachel!

As stated previously, we got to the North Little Rock RV Park at about noon on Tuesday, and picked up Rachel that afternoon from day from daycare.  Her mother met us there, and had clothes and a car seat to swap to our CRV.  One the way back to the Bus, we stopped at a local Kroger to buy essentials, ice cream, milk and she also wanted some oranges.

After dinner, we got into the ice cream with chocolate syrup on it.  She really liked it and licked the bowl clean….. and had some laughs while doing it…..

Later, she played with toys in the Bus and watched a video.  She made a pallet on the floor to watch the movie….

On Wednesday, we went by our daughter’s house to see Rachel’s school uniform.  She will start school in about 2 weeks.  She liked dressing up and enjoyed modeling…..

Since we had planned to leave Wednesday afternoon, we took Rachel and her mom out for lunch at Rachel’s favorite restaurant…. The Purple Cow, where they have purple ice cream…..

Grammie and Rachel got in a little ‘hugging time” since were would be leaving her and mom, Deanne, and heading back to the Bus for the trip back to Victoria.

We made it to Jacksonville, TX by Wednesday night, and completed our 5-week trip by arriving in Victoria at about 2:00PM Thursday.

Until our next trip…….. that’s it!!

Visiting Abe Lincoln’s Home & Tomb–Springfield, IL

Patsy and I left our fellow travelers behind in Wisconsin and headed toward Texas on Sunday morning.  We drove south to Springfield, IL and spent the night in the Double J RV Park in nearby Chatham, IL.

After looking at brochures and checking out the internet, we decided to spend some time in Springfield to tour the Abe Lincoln Home National Historic site and the Lincoln Tomb.

We knew that you had to have tickets for the tour, and that the Lincoln Center opened at 8:30am, so we started out early.  We got tickets for a 9:10am tour, and got to walk through the home and then the surrounding neighborhood that has been restored to the period.IMG_3641

Inside the Lincoln Home………….

From the home, we rode over to the Lincoln Tomb…..

As can be seen above, Abe’s nose is the shiniest part of any bronze statue in the town.  Everybody touches it for good luck.

On the way back to the Bus, we drove by both the current Capitol building and the old Capitol building.  Here they are, oldest first……….

We also drove past this mural……… done in pixels:

We left the RV Park about noon, and drove through St. Louis, MO on the way to Little Rock, AR to visit our granddaughter, Rachel!

Going through St. Louis, Patsy captured some pictures from the Bus window.  First the Arch of St. Louis………….

And Cardinal Stadium……….

We overnighted on a Wal-Mart parking lot in Poplar Bluff, Mo.  We arrived in Little Rock at 11:00am on Tuesday, and by 4:00pm, we had picked up Rachel from daycare.  She is spending the night in the Bus…….. and is happy about it!!

More Rachel in the next post.
