The Grandkids Summer Road Trip–#6

It rained most of the night, and when it let off on Friday morning, we left the campground to visit Rock City and ride the Incline Railway.  Even though the rain let off, it was intermittent showers all day until about 4:00pm when some sun broke through.

First stop was Rock City where we traded our combo tickets for some ‘real tickets’ that got us into the attraction.  We found out that they handed out light-weight ponchos at the ticket booth for free, so we each took one.  It’s a good thing that we did, because it did rain off & on.

Rock City is a paved ‘hilly’ area covered with very large boulders, steep hills, and paved paths through and around the boulders.  A lot of the paved path is steps, both up and down!!  The pictures will tell the story………

We completed our tour of the rocks in Rock City, and left to visit the last of the “big three”, the Incline Railway.  The Incline has been around for over a hundred years, transporting people up and down Lookout Mountain….. in the early days, it was a commute.  Now, it’s an attraction and a commute.

We drove to the station on top of the mountain, and rode it down and back up.

We had a 30 minute wait after we got to the lower level, so we decided to cross the street for ice cream.  Rachel got her favorite….. mint with chocolate chip!

We had better seats for a view on the way back up…….

IMG_6771IMG_6773This will wrap up our three days in Chattanooga.  Tonight the grandkids will swim at the campground pool again, and Grammie is making spaghetti for dinner tonight.

Saturday morning, we will pull out of the campground and head north to Nashville, TN.

The Grandkids Summer Road Trip–#5

On Wednesday evening at about 6:00pm we arrived at the Holiday Travel Park in Chattanooga, and got set up for the next three nights.  Afterwards, the grandkids went to the swimming pool and “got wet”……..

On Thursday morning, Grammie decided to make pancakes for breakfast, again, and this time, she had a lot of help….

After a good breakfast, we drove into Chattanooga to find our first attraction……… Ruby Falls.   At Ruby Falls, we purchased combo tickets for all of us to enter the falls as well as Rock City and The Incline Railway.

Tickets in hand, we went down the elevator and began the one mile (round trip walk) trek to the 150 foot under ground waterfall.  Along the way, we say stalagmites and stalactites, interesting formations, etc.  When we reached the falls, it was lit up for a while, and was beautiful.  Here are some pictures…………

Outside the cave, we were able to see some views from high on Lookout Mountain.

When we left Ruby Falls, we drove downtown to the Chattanooga Choo Choo The Choo Choo was originally a Railroad Terminal Station, which was transformed into a visitor center, and later into a hotel property.  It was a nice building to visit, and the grandkids got to see old trains and train cars.  Here are some pictures……

The interior of the hotel was well done.

After we left the Choo Choo building, it began to rain heavily, and since it was about 5:00pm, we headed back to the Bus where Grammie put some frozen Digiorno’s pizza in the oven.  We rested and relaxed for the night.

Tomorrow, we visit Rock City and the Inclined Railway!!!
