FMCA Convention–Alliant Energy Center, Madison WI

We had signed up for the FMCA International Convention in Madison, WI.  We enjoy these rallies because we get to see the latest models of RV’s, attend seminars on maintenance or RV’s & RV travel, and to visit vendors of new items for RV’s.  In the case of this convention, we attended with four other couples from our local Allegro camping club.

The others parked in various other types of service, but the Jennings and us parked in the 50A electric area, and were able to arrive and park next to each other.

On the trip from Wisconsin Dells, we ended up following the Juneau’s Phaeton with their Jeep hauling bicycles being towed.  One of the bikes belonged to their granddaughter, Madison (of all names, since we were headed to Madison, WI!!!!)…..

Patsy managed to take a picture of Madison making a ‘building’ out of the convention brochures…..

On the first night of the convention, we went to play “card bingo”, and sat across the table from a lady named Marianne Hagg and her husband.  She saw my name, and said that one of her goals was to meet me at this convention because she had read some of my controversial posts on the Tiffin RV Owners Network (TRVN) forum.  I had to have a picture…….

We attended a lot of seminars, visited the vendor areas, participated in some area meetings and went to all of the nightly entertainment venues.  We were very busy, but did not take very many pictures. Chip and I did get some really good parking spots (luck of the draw or time we showed up in line)……..

The Jennings and us were parked at the end of a paved parking area, at the beginning of a row and next to a street that lead up to the convention buildings.  The Jennings were right behind us and the second picture was taken from there patio area.

Here are a few pictures that will give you the idea of the crowd of RV’s.  It was reported that almost 1600 were on site……

Another thing that made our parking spots good was that some rigs were parked on uneven GRASSY areas!!

Here’s a couple of pictures of the entertainment….

I also took advantage of our time in Madison to look up a guy that I was in Basic Training at Fort Campbell, KY and AIT at Fort Lee, VA in the Spring of 1971.  Tom Gundlach and his wife, Tricia, picked up Patsy and I at the convention area, and took us out for lunch in downtown Madison.

Before lunch, we tour the local Farmer’s Market on the square around the State Capitol building, and then we toured the Capitol itself.

Here’s a picture of Tom and Tricia standing in the center of the Capitol….

The last four pictures demonstrate how beautiful the Capitol Building is!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the rally and the visit with Tom and Tricia!  Thanks, Tom!!
