Drive through the Smokies

We got up Sunday and were ready to drive through the National Park to Sevierville, TN, where we planned to stay the night in a campground.  We had noticed an ‘08 Phaeton spending the night at the casino, and they were leaving as we were hooking up the car.  Before we got off the parking lot, we caught up with them at a stop light, and the driver, seeing us behind him, asked us on the CB if we were heading north.  We responded that we were, so we ended up traveling together all the way.  The traffic was so heavy that neither of us found a spot to pull out and stop for pictures!!  Here’s the trip pictures:

The following are the pictures along the way as we drove.  Patsy took all of them:

When we entered the park on the south side, the traffic was heavier than I thought it would be for a Sunday morning.  As we approached the north end, the traffic was really heavy.  The following two pictures show what we saw, but does not convey the real situation…… the nearly stopped traffic went on for about 5 miles!!!  As we left the park, we took the bypass around Gatlinburg, and the traffic was really backed up around the city on the other side of the road.

Our Phaeton friends were meeting a group in Pigeon Forge, so they turned off as soon as we entered the city limits, and we said our goodbyes via CB.  We continued on to Sevierville, and the traffic continued to be heavy:

We pulled into a Wal-Mart in Sevierville to get supplies, and I searched the internet for a campground.  We settled on the “Riverside RV Park and Resort” and it turned out to be nice.  We ended up parked next to an ‘05 Bus, and the occupants were outside watching a football game on the TV, and we ended up visiting until dark.  I will take pictures of the park tomorrow.
