We woke up this morning and got on the road at about 9:00am. We drove a very curvy and hilly mountainous road to Cherokee, NC, which will be our gateway to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. We got to Cherokee about 3:00pm, and found a good overnight place on the parking lot of Harrah’s Casino. Once parked, we scouted out the area.
There is an Indian Festival going on in Cherokee, and an arts & crafts event in nearby Whittier, NC tomorrow. Since we have 9 days to get to Telico Plains, TN on the other side of the National Park, we are going to take our time touring the area.
