Heading to Disney World Via Gulf Shores, AL

Patsy had an unanticipated Doctor’s appointment on Tuesday Morning at 10:30, so we had to delay our departure to Gulf Shores from last Sunday to Tuesday about noon.  The distance was about 650 miles, and we are meeting our 4 year old granddaughter, Rachel, (with her parents) there on Thursday afternoon to take her to a beach (for the first time in her life), and then leave early Friday morning for a week at Disney World.  We decided to cover 500 miles on Tuesday, and the rest on Wednesday morning, arriving at our campground at about noon.

Rachel and her parents live in Little Rock, AR, and are taking a week of vacation.  After meeting at Gulf Shores, we will travel by separate vehicles to Disney World.  Patsy and I are staying at Fort Wilderness, and they are staying at one of the Disney hotels.

All of our trips that include heading east on HWY 59 towards Houston, include a stop at Prasek’s in Hillje, TX for sausage, jalapeno and cheese kolaches.  After cleaning the love bugs off the Bus before we left, the front was covered when we got to Prasek’s……. and it was a trip of only 45 miles!!

This is my favorite area inside the store…….. the bakery!!!  The two ladies in front of me seemed to have a hard time making up their minds!

After we left Prasek’s, we focused on staying on the road, with only two stops………… one at Buc-cee’s in Baytown for fuel ($2.35/gal), and another at the Louisiana Welcome station for a 30 minute rest break.

We arrived at the Mississippi Welcome at about 11:00pm with 494 miles behind us.  We overnighted at this welcome center, and got back on the road at about 8:00am the next morning with 150 miles to the campground in Gulf Shores.

We arrived in Gulf Shores at about 11:00am, and after fueling up at the Murphy’s Wal-Mart at $2.41/gal) while unleaded regular gas was $2.49/gal!), we checked into the Luxury RV Resort.  We got a nice full hookup spot right up front.

After setting up, we rode around in the car to get a ‘lay of the land’.  We found Rachel’s motel, and it had an access to the beach right across the street……… so we checked it out.

Their motel right across from the parking lot for beach access….

Later, we drove to a more remote beach near the old Fort Morgan National Park, about 24 miles from Gulf Shores.  The beach was nicer, and had very few people on it…………

We expect the “Rachel Entourage” to arrive about 4:00pm on Thursday afternoon.  We will then see how she reacts to her first visit to the beach!!

More later………….

We have been wanting to stop at Prasek's, and now we will for sure when we come down that way in mid-June. Thanks for reminding me. Y'all have fun; I know Rachel will!

You will like Prasek's. It is not only a bakery, it has meats too...... fresh, smoked, and jerky. You can even buy a $2000 stainless steel BBQ pit.
