Marco Island & Naples

On Thursday, we rested late into the morning, and then took off for a tour of Marco Island.  Marco Island has a history of fighting with local Indians to secure the land, but most of it today is simply multi-million dollar homes and shopping to match.

We left our sites at the Naples KOA at about 11:00am and drove to Marco Island, about 20 miles away.  Here are our spots at the KOA……. not very roomy for $92/night.  We are on the right and Mark’s rig is on the left………..

As we arrived in Marco Island, we saw a sign advertising an Arts and Crafts sale.  We stopped, and Patsy bought her Valentine’s Day gift!!!!!

After the visit to the crafts sale, we toured the city and the area homes.  Here are some examples of the ‘slum’ areas of Marco Island…..

As we were driving around, I spotted a large turtle on one of the vacant lots.  Patsy and Mark got out of the car to take pictures…………..

Tomorrow, we plan to pull out of the Naples KOA, and head across the lower part of Florida to the Keys, via the Everglades!!
