Key West – Day 1

We got up early on Wednesday morning, and left the Everglades National Park campground and headed toward the KOA on Sugarloaf Key……. about 15 miles from Key West. We were surprised by the size and length of the campsites and paved pads at the campground.  The following shows our campsite, and the latter shows Mark and Sue’s rig in the foreground………….

We drove Highway 1 to Sugarloaf Key.  Mark and Sue led the way, and the following pictures give a flavor of the scenery along the 'Oversea’ road…….

We arrived at the KOA and got checked in by about 11:30am.  Within an hour, we were headed into Key West to get a ‘lay of the land’.  We did pretty good and will go back tomorrow to see more.  Here is a photo ‘story’ of what we saw……….

When it became time for dinner, we drove to Marathon Key, and tried a seafood restaurant that was recommended by Nick Russell, of the Gypsy Journal fame, in his daily blog.  The restaurant was called “Keys Fisheries Restaurant”, and it was very good……….
