The Western White House & The Regency Bridge

We began our trip when we left home about 9:30am on Tuesday, and got to Waco, TX about 1:00pm. After having lunch (smoked turkey breast) from Rudy's BBQ, we left the motorhome at the Flying 'J' Truck Stop in Waco, and took out in the CRV. First we went to Crawford, TX to see where President Bush has his ranch. Crawford is a really small town that appears to have gotten a financial boost from tourism based on George being President. Cindy Sheehan probably helped some too!! We drove 7.5 miles out into the country to see Bush's place, but all we saw was an ugly 'secret service' gate and offices.

Here are some pictures of downtown Crawford:

After Crawford, we drove west to San Saba, TX to find the suspension bridge that is shown on the opening of the "Texas Country Reporter" show. It is called the Regency Bridge, and was located about 19 miles west of San Saba. We found it and it was in a fairly desolate area:

On the way back to Waco, we went through Colorado Bend State Park. That was another interesting drive. We had to drive 9 miles on dirt road...... 4 miles of it on private property with loose livestock. When we got there, it was a very nice park, with a lot of deer running around.

All in all, it was a very long day. We drove about 200 miles to get to Waco, and then the aftenoon 'trip' turned out to be a 335 mile adventure and we did not get back to the motorhome until 9:45pm!!
