Gulf Coast RV Club -- Aug '08 Rally

During the weekend of 24--26Aug2008, we participated in a rally of the GCRV Club held at the Rayford's Crossing RV Park in Spring, Texas. We arrived shortly after noon on Friday, shortly behind our friends, Mark and Sue Didelot, from Lake Charles, LA. After we got our rigs set up, we went to a local RV dealer's lot to see the 2008 Tiffin Allegro Bus motorhomes. We spent about an hour looking and talking to the salesman, then we stopped at a Wal-Mart to pick up a few supplies. Here's our motorhome parked next to the Didelot's rig:

Here are some other pictures of the campground, including Patsy and Sue in the pool:

Later that evening, we joined up with another family, Ron and Ellen Norton, and their son, Michael, and went to a local Pappsito's for Mexican food.

Saturday was another hot August day. In the morning, we visited, and then someone offered a CD of the John Travolta movie, Wild Hogs, so we made plans to watch in on the large screen TV in the room that had been reserved for our group. We picked the time of 1:00pm, and spread the word. About a dozen people showed up, but the campground staff had already planned a session of "CANDY" bingo. We found that to play, you had to buy a candy bar in the campground shop, and that was the price of admission. They then grouped the bars (in case of a multiple bingo), and we ended up playing 4 games of bingo. It really seemed to drag on because I wanted to watch the movie!! The staff person who led the bingo took great pleasure in dragging it out, and enjoying the fact that I did not win. I threatened to post her picture on the internet, so here it is................ and her name is Melissa!!!
Here is a picture of one of Melissa's 'posse' that seemed to always be getting more numbers covered on her card than I was....... and having a good time doing it!! There's also a picture of the other 'movie-goers' that were playing bingo:
When the bingo finished up, we finally got to watch the movie. We all enjoyed it and it was a lot of fun.

On Saturday night, the group, which was about 50+ in numbers, enjoyed a catered bar-b-que dinner that included brisket, sausage, and chicken along with the trimmings. It was followed by more cake and ice cream than we could eat!! The club was celebrating the third anniversary of it's formation. Part of the festivities was a drawing for door prizes......... and Mark won a bug zapper:
I think Mark plans to take it back to Lake Charles and 'hunt' crawdad with it!!!

On Sunday, we got up and left early before it got hot. I wanted to get back home and start getting the motorhome ready for our next trip. We are leaving after our grandkids birthday party on Sept 15 (Matthew will be 3 on Sept 16, and Aubrey will be 2 on Sept 12). We are planning on attend RV shows in Fort Worth and Dallas, and then heading toward the Smoky Mountains to catch some Fall color.

More later.......
