Brunswick, GA and the TRVN Rally

eWe left the Skidaway State Park at about 10:00am on Sunday.  After stopping off at a “Krispy Kreme” donut shop for breakfast, we got on I-95 and headed south to Brunswick, GA, and the Coastal RV Resort.  This RV park will be our ‘home’ until next Sunday while we attend the TRVN rally.

We got checked in and parked by noon, and spent the afternoon washing clothes and, eventually, washed the outside of the Bus.  The park is very nice, with a lot of upscale landscaping.  Here are some pictures of our site…..

The site is located on a river.  The following are some pictures of the pavilion where the rally activities will be held…….

On Monday morning, Patsy and I decided to drive to Jekyll Island, about 18 miles away, and tour  the island.  You can read about the history of Jekyll Island here.

The entrance fee to Jekyll Island was listed in the brochures as $3 for a car, but when we got there, it had doubled to $6.  There were signs in a lot of places stating that “this facility, part, statue, etc was paid for by your entrance fee’.

Here are some of the old buildings that were on the island…….

The ‘skeleton’ of the house of the original inhabitant of the island was still standing……….

Here is the marina on the island………..

You can see the tall bridge in the background above.  It is the bridge over the intercostal canal on Hwy 17, which we went over later in the day.

We also found a campground on the island, but it was pretty rustic…

On our way off the island, we found the accessible beach and the local shopping area.  The entire shopping center, which was small, was made up of ‘double-wide’ trailers.  It appeared that the original buildings were wiped out by a hurricane in the last few years, and this was the new village.   We saw an area about one mile down the road that was fenced off and all that was there was old paved parking areas!!  Here is the shopping village now……..

………. and here is the beach in the same area.

There were people in the water, but I bet it was cold!!

When we left the park, we crossed the tall bridge to go into Brunswick to shop at Wal-Mart and to get some lunch………

Tonight, we had a ‘salad’ potluck dinner at the park as a pre-rally event.  Tomorrow, Patsy and I will go into Brunswick to pick up a ‘keyless entry control module’ for the Honda that I ordered through the local dealer, and while out, we plan to tour St. Simon’s Island.
