Today, we spent most of the day driving around the Shipshewana area…………. including back roads and downtown shops. Here are some snapshots that we took along the way.
A couple of healthy ponies that we saw in a field…
Several of the back roads were resurfaced “only” where the horses that pull the buggies run…..
Some Amish children leaving the local Dollar Store in there small buggy……..
Buggies lined up beside a local supermarket. Note that some are “pickup bed” types…..
A farmer taking his “plow horse team and plow” down the road…..
An Amish dad taking his kids boating!!………
With the emphasis on quilts in the Amish area, each summer they have a “Heritage Trail” around the Elkhart area where gardens resembling a quilt are planted. Here is one that we found…..
Patsy wanted to visit a shopping are called the “Old Bag Factory”. It is a mall located in a building that used to make the woven bags for holding fruit and other farm products like feed bags (or burlap bags). Here are some pictures……
As we drive through towns, we often see people advertising stores. Sometimes, they dress up like the “Statue of Liberty” model that represents a tax service. Today, we saw a ‘cowboy’ riding a saddle on a had rail and advertising a pawn shop that was buying gold and silver…. go figure!!! I am pretty sure that he was not from Texas!!!
We are reviewing our Michigan travel information, and may head north in the morning……. still in the planning stage.
Later……
