We left the Jolly Roger RV park on Monday morning, and drove the 40 miles to the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park for a 12:30PM Glass Bottom Boat Ride. It had rained heavily on Sunday night and early Monday morning, and we were a little concerned about a boat trip with the bad weather. It turned out that the boat was going to sail, and it was a large boat, so we went. It turned out to be fine!!
The following are pictures of the the beginning of our adventure……….
This is a picture of the inside of the boat. There were two “wells”, one on each side with the glass ‘windows’ for viewing. There were 10 windows in each well. When we got to the coral reef, we sat on the floor around the well………. so some pictures have feet in them………
On the way to the reef, we secured a good perch for viewing on the front of the boat……..
The boat was large and left a heck of a wake behind it….
The following are some of the pictures that we got. The color through the glass did not come through well on the picture, and the clarity was not very good. We saw several sting rays right off, and you can see them in the first three pictures somewhat buried in the sand. The remainder and small fish and coral……
The following shows a barracuda………
We finished our boat trip about 3:00PM, and drove back up toward Miami, and stopped for the night at the Indian casino where we had stopped on the way down to the Keys. We cashed in another of our 2 for 1 buffet tickets, and had a great evening meal.
