We left La Grange on Monday, and we were the last of the group to leave!!! We decided to spend Monday and Tuesday night at McKinney Falls State Park near Austin. It was a nice quiet place to spend a couple of days since it was almost empty on the day after Labor Day weekend. Here are some pictures of the camp site…….
On Tuesday, we made a trip to Austin to drive around the campus of the University of Texas, which turned out to be nothing like it was when I went there in ‘68---‘70!! We did go to the Coop store and looked over, but did not buy all of the UT stuff.
We also called Patsy’s cousin, Linda and her husband, George, who now live in Cedar Park, TX, and have brought a new brand of yogurt ice cream shop to Texas named Froyoz. We told them that we were in the area, and thought we would visit. They were working and told us to come to the shop. We did and got to visit with them and got treated to some ice cream. I was assured that it was much like ice cream and tasted good, so I tried it….. and it was really good!
When we returned to the state park, we decided to take
a look at the “falls”……. both upper and lower! We had a small hike to the upper falls. Here they are…….
Upper:
Lower:
This part of Texas has been in a severe drought, and there ‘little to no water’ coming over the falls. The upper had a rush compared to the lower, which had a small stream coming through a crack in the rocks. It was, however, still a nice area.
We did spot some cardinals just outside our window playing in their own pool of water……..
We left the state park, and drove the 40 miles to our rally park in New Braunfels.
